Dental Assistant Training Program

Are you interested in a career in dentistry? There are many ways to get involved in this field, but dental assisting is one of the most popular. Dental assistants play an essential role in the day-to-day operations of a dental office, and they are often the first point of contact for patients. If you’re interested in becoming a dental assistant, you may wonder where to start. Creekside Academy of Dental Assisting offers the best hands-on dental assistant training program in Utah and beyond.

What is Dental Assisting?

Dental assisting plays a vital role in any dental office. Dental assistants work alongside dentists and other dental professionals to provide quality care to patients. The dentistry career is rapidly growing, especially in Utah!

Our Dental Assistant Training Program

Our hands-on dental assistant training program is designed to give students the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in this field. The program is divided into two parts: didactic (classroom) training and clinical externship.

The didactic portion of the program covers topics such as:

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Dental assistants are often the first point of contact for patients in a dental office. As a result, they play an essential role in emergency response. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, is a lifesaving technique we use when someone goes into cardiac arrest. Knowing how to perform CPR correctly can mean the difference between life and death. For this reason, we provide hands-on training in CPR. Our instructors teach students the basic steps of CPR. By the end of the class, students will be better prepared to handle an emergency in the dental office.

Dental Procedures

As a dental assistant, you will be responsible for various tasks. In addition to providing support to the dentist during procedures, you will also need to take X-rays, prepare patients for treatment, and Sterilize dental instruments. While you can learn some of these duties through on-the-job training, it is also essential to have a solid understanding of dental procedures. That’s why our program includes hands-on dental procedures training. Our instructors will provide you with an overview of the most common dental procedures and how to assist the dentist during these procedures. With this knowledge, you will be able to provide better care for your patients and make your job easier.

Sterilization and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)

As a dental assistant, you will play an essential role in keeping your patients healthy and safe. That’s why ensuring that you are adequately trained in sterilization techniques is vital. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requires all dental assistants to be trained in infection control. Our hands-on training includes proper sterilization procedures for dental instruments and materials. In addition, you will need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with patients. PPE includes gloves, eye protection, and masks. Understanding these guidelines can help protect yourself and your patients from harmful infections.

And More!

Students will also have the opportunity to shadow dentists and other dental professionals to learn more about a typical day on the job.

Externship

The clinical externship portion of the program gives students a chance to put their knowledge into practice by working alongside licensed dentists and other dental professionals in a real-world setting. Students will gain valuable experience performing tasks such as taking X-rays, charting patient records, and providing chairside assistance.
